Bianca Pickering

Research Officer

Bianca completed her Honours in Science in 2017 with a focus on plant flammability. Since then, she has been working as a senior research assistant in FLARE to support various projects within the group. A major focus of her work has involved the improvement of data that is input into the PHOENIX RapidFire bushfire simulation model. This has included the evaluation of Victoria’s fuel-type inputs, the development of a subjective fuel hazard assessment method and the quantification of masticated vegetation as a new fuel-type. Bianca also works closely with colleagues to understand the drivers of landscape flammability. Bianca is a trainee Fire Behaviour Analyst and Emergency Medical Responder with CFA. Outside of work, Bianca enjoys camping, hiking, riding mountain bikes, and hitting the slope on her snowboard.
