Bree is a PhD candidate researching the implications of weed invasions on native fuels and fire regimes. Her background is in practical weed control and fire management. Working for many years as a bushland regenerator and seasonal firefighter she developed an insatiable curiosity for plant biology and fire science that inspired her return to university in 2016. She first worked with FLARE in 2019 as an undergraduate completing a research project analysing the effects of altered ignition location on bushfire risk modelling. She then returned in 2023 to undertake another research project as part of her Master of Environment that investigated the flammability of Blackberry and how it influences fire behaviour in native eucalypt and pine plantation forest types. She is now back in 2024 undertaking her PhD with research interests in landscape flammability, bushfire behaviour analysis and bushfire risk modelling.
When not studying, she enjoys exploring the natural world, going to stand-up comedy shows and drinking coffee with family and friends.
