Dr. Waseem Hittini

Research Fellow

Waseem is a fire safety engineer specializing in experimental and numerical studies of flame spread. He is finalizing his PhD in Fire Safety Engineering at the University of Queensland, where his research focuses on how model complexity influences the predictive capabilities of flame spread simulations. Before commencing his PhD, Waseem earned master’s degree in mechanical engineering from UAE University. This focused on composite materials for thermal insulation. In addition to his academic research, Waseem has industrial experience in fire safety consultancies, applying computational tools to assess fire impacts in built environments. He has also contributed to teaching in fire safety and mechanical engineering at several universities, mentoring students and supporting research training. Waseem joins the University of Melbourne as a Fire Behavior Analyst, where he will continue advancing experimental and modelling approaches to better understand flame spread in bushfire settings. Outside of research, he enjoys playing tennis, football, chess, and video games.
