Dr. Marina Hurley

Senior Honorary Fellow

 

Marina is a scientist with a background in ecology who specialises in the teaching of scientific and academic writing. Marina has an exceptionally clear understanding of the link between thinking and writing and has developed her unique approach of teaching science writing into the Writing Clear Science Writing Workshops. Marina’s article “What’s Your Problem? – A practical approach to document design” (Writing Matters 2012), is based upon a popular workshop exercise that she developed in 2005.

Since 2005, Marina has run over 300 writing workshops and is currently Senior Honorary Fellow at the FLARE Wildfire Research group at the University of Melbourne and regularly travels across Australia to deliver writing workshops.

Marina Hurley has a BSc and a PhD in Zoology from James Cook University, Marina’s teaching of scientific writing is strengthened by her twenty years experience working, studying and researching in a diverse range of scientific fields including Entomology, Rainforest Ecology, Forestry and Farm Forestry, Ecology, Botany, Zoology, Freshwater Ecology and Agriculture.

Outside of teaching, Marina has a passion for percussion, photography and water-colour painting.
