Project: Fire Risk Modelling | Future Fires

RFS4 Research into Building Performance during Bush Fires

The project is designed to conduct post-fire investigation of house loss in NSW. It will provide insight into the effectiveness and appropriateness of the existing regulatory framework relevant to building bushfire protection and associated land-use planning development controls and will provide recommendations for its improvement.

Project timeline: 05/2023 – 08/2025

This project builds on a related project - Overnight fire weather conditions in NSW during Black Summer - to explore spatial and temporal patterns in overnight fire weather conditions in south-eastern Australia. It will help to build up a ...

Decision support for climate-adapted bushfire risk mitigation

As climate change intensifies bushfire risks, there is an urgent need for fire management tools that remain effective in a warming world. This project aims to optimise the delivery of current risk mitigation tools and identify pathways to ...

Invasive plants and their impacts on landscape wildfire risk

This PhD research is focussed on understanding how invasive plant species alter fire regimes, initiate invasion-fire cycles and increase landscape wildfire risk. A functional trait-based approach will be used to investigate mechanisms of ...
